I am finally figuring out the thank you letters, as my filemaker learning curve is increasing. Here is something I cant figure...
In layout mode, I've got my letter formatted and fitting on the layout. On the screen, it shows the text extending to the bottom of the screen. However, when I print there is a two inch space at the bottom. If I try to move the text down, it says that this will cause the layout to extend off the page. So basically, there is no way to balance the letter on the page because there is always 2 inches of blank space left at the bottom.
I understand that the merge field (I only have 1 in the layout) will cause some expansion of the text and the two merge fields in the address (position and bus/org) take up two lines that dont show on the letter for most of our records, but this doesn't account for the amount of space left at the bottom.
I tried deleting the header and footer to just give me space for the text in the body. I still am stuck with a two inch margin at the bottom. Is there a margin I can reduce somewhere?
The fix we are using now is to make it a legal size document in print setup so we in a sense, never hit a margin. This is working as far as balancing the document on the page but I'd rather figure out the right way. Any ideas?
Also, in deleting the header for two of the thank you letter layouts, I've also lost the text in the header that said, thank you letter #. I can repaste a header in but with out the text. How can I get the text back? I remember hearing not to change the titles of the letter or you might mess something up. Is deleting it bad too or is it still the same, just invisible?
