0.7 is the official, maintained version of freenet. It's what you get when you download freenet from the website. It has, at least, several hundred nodes. And we simply cannot implement opennet at this point. It is important that we implement opennet, but not yet, because there are serious problems that need resolving first, not least being load limiting/balancing and some serious worries about routing.
It is quite possible to get freenet 0.7 working, even if you don't know anyone using it, for testing purposes, and it is certainly less effort than arguing about it on this mailing list!
