Although I only know a tiny bit about Ubuntu, you can probably create Firefox shortcuts that specify which profile to use. In Windows, the command in the shortcut is "<path to firefox.exe>" -P <profile name> -no-remote. You don't want to use the freenet profile for web browsing, because it opens far too many connections per site. P is Windows' nickname for ProfileManager.
