Just from the command line, and Since I guess it is the same as on OS X, 
here is what I'm doing

cd /??</that's the route to your Freenet folder/>????/Freenet ?

./run.sh start ?

But there is also a little rabbit-icon that may also fit on Ubuntu, if 
you get trouble, I may try to see how it fits,
since I've got Ubuntu installed on my Mac? it fits onto the menubar. 
and, sofar I know, comes with the package



Not shure it'll come intact, but I'm joining a copy of this little app.
