With Terminal Services, ebase (or whatever) is actually running on the
remote compter.  On your computer, you are just seeing the updated screens.
This is relatively fast because you are not sending lots of database data
over your internet connection.

With a VPN, ebase would be running on your computer, so all the data would
need to come through your internet connection, making this subject to the
same slow speed limitations as connecting to a host IP address.  The VPN
part of it just makes the data going back and forth less available to
hacking.
