Merge fields are handled in source codes and emails is handled
differently than in layouts. In order to make at least a limited
merge capability available to those using the runtime, the designers
arranged for the body of the message to be held in a text field. The
names of merge fields (for example <<FIRST NAME 1>>) are inserted in
the text field, then replaced with the values of the fields using Set
Field script commands. So, you can't just add fields to the list
without changing the scripts.

Since you have FileMaker, it is probably a better plan for you to
customize a solicitation letter layout using the standard merge field
protocol. Details on that in the FileMaker manual on layouts.
