Almost any of the standard accounting packages can be adapted to NFP use. We
use QuickBooks. We don't have government contracts which have some pretty
stringent auditing requirements so those who do have some extra work to do.
We do have multiple funds with both restricted and non-restricted funds and
categorize stuff by projects. We currently don't export/import data from one
to the other but we will be starting to work on that shortly. We have
exported data from other programs and gotten it to import correctly in
QuickBooks. They have a well defined import format called IIF. It is
certainly possible to write data in that format from FileMaker, i.e. it is
just a matter of doing it. However whatever we do will not be useful as
anything other than a template because it is all based on the account codes
of our chart of accounts and we are unlikely to spend the resources to
generate a fully customizable package.
