It's safe in the sense that it won't have hidden repercussions, but 
there are other effects.

The Dues relationship is sorted by post date and time, so you will 
see the value of the field Membership type from the most recent 
payment coded as Dues. I presume that's what you need.

Second, since Membership Type is a related field, not a look-up Fast 
Find Field, it won't be indexed in the names file. Searches and sorts 
using this field will take lots longer than using the Fast Find 
fields. Not much of an effect if you have hundreds of records, but if 
you have thousands, it could take significantly longer.
