One thought: do you do a lot of householding?  Is it possible that the duplicates were 
two people from the same household because you handn't eliminated them from your found 
set?  They wouldn't be dupes to you since they're not the same person, but the mail 
house might treat them as such since the address (and perhaps last name) is identical.
