cu was always bundled with uucp in earlier days, now it is an independent package (see http://packages.debian.org/etch/cu). And for socat, see http://www.dest-unreach.org/socat/ or http://packages.debian.org/etch/socat I wonder if someone with Debian on the FR could just give you the files contained in the packages.
