I don't think "intel sucks".  I do believe there are a number of
issues that have been addressed in FreeBSD 6.2 RC1.

Please try to upgrade to
http://www.pfsense.com/~sullrich/1.0.1-SNAPSHOT-11-25-2006/ which is
based on FreeBSD 6.2-RC1
