we're successfully using a dual-port intel giga nic card if that helps.

it's an Intel PRO/1000MT - a PCIX part

the boot message indicates it looks like the onboard Intel (em) giga
devices - em0 and em1 are on-board, 2 and 3 are the PCIX ones.
