we only started having the problem with snow leopard.

as far as I can see, tunnelblick is a fairly simplistic interface on top
of the openvpn daemon command line. Perhaps viscosity is simply better
at fixing dns in snowleopard; we did have someone using it for a while a
long time ago and at that time it didn't seem to offer any advantages as
a commercial product.
