Wait, you see a "/" symbol?

 

Which version of pfSense did you install? If it's the embedded version, then
the "/" is correct, the only way to access the console is by using a
null-modem cable and hyperterminal (if you use Windows) on another computer.
Then you use the other computer to see the output that's usually on the
screen and you can access the menu pfSense shows when booted up.

good idea but no

in addition I can get to point where it would boot and it just sits there
with a "/" sysbol in the fist char position on the bottom line.
I guess that means that something has crashed
