Thanks for your prompt response.

I have seen the settings dialog box; there isn't any option for "Use default
gateway". Am curious to know one thing though, when I am behind the VPN my
browsers are able to connect to the internet by using that .pac url; so
could it not be possible that pidgin can also connect without requiring me
to modify any vpn settings. I mean if another application can connect then
why not pidgin?
