You'll have to wait for a new package for maemo to get an updated
version of Pidgin. There is a bit of extra work to make the apps run on
the N900.
As for webcam - I couldn't tell you one way or the other.

the latest that's ported to Maemo.
As for the webcam - not sure if that support is there in the Maemo
