This is from a paid product notice we use. I also noticed something on the Symantec fourms.
Thanks, Shawn Pivot Advisory: AIM Authentication Update AOL is changing the AIM authentication protocol and will implement the change beginning August 19th, 2010. Users attempting to connect to the AIM network on a legacy version of AIM (less than version 7.0) may be unable to do so without upgrading to the latest version. How will this affect Pivot users? Pivot users will be unaffected by the change at this time. As an AOL Certified Partner, Pivot has been granted a grace period to update our software to meet their new requirements. Once the next version of Pivot is released, we will require our users to upgrade in order to meet the AOL protocol changes. How will this affect non-Pivot users? Users attempting to connect to the AIM network on a legacy version of AIM may be unable to do so without upgrading to the latest version. Users of alternative applications such as Trillian, DeadAIM, AIM Pro, and AIM Triton may also lose connectivity to AOL. If any of your non-Pivot users are experiencing difficulties and you would like to add them to Pivot, please email us at [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]?subject=add%20users%20to%20my%20pivot%20accou nt> or call 800.990.7201, and we will add them to your current contract. Will all legacy versions of AIM will be affected? Over the next few months, AOL will be phasing out ALL versions of AIM less than 7.0, forcing all users on those versions to upgrade. We understand from our conversations with AOL that a large number of users utilizing various 5 and 6 series AIM versions will be included in the phase beginning August 19th. A good indication that a forced upgrade is imminent will be an automated message from AOL requesting the user to upgrade. The request for voluntary upgrade will be replaced with a forced upgrade in subsequent implementation phases. Will my firm's compliance be affected? It depends on your firm's configuration and vendor. If any of your users connect to AIM through a real-time compliance solution, there is a higher probability that your users will be affected by this change. You should contact your compliance vendor to verify that users will be able to connect with AIM's new authentication protocol.
