@Julie, Depending on your network configuration, port 5222 may be blocked.
Can you change some settings and see if this helps? This has helped me several times in the past. 1. Accounts, Manage, Modify 2. Advanced 3. Connect port: 80 4. Connect server: talk.google.com 5. Save 6. Uncheck and then recheck the box. Accept the certificate when prompted. If this is unsuccessful and you need to restore the default settings: 1. Connect port: 5222 2.
