Folks,

Let's say i set up a full sphere Ambisonic system. I scour the web looking
for b-format files to play over Fons' awesome ambdec app.

After i've listened to the few b-format files and my collection of Nimbus
Records UHJ discs, i'm sitting there staring at my collection of 15K stereo
tracks.

So i turn on the Super Stereo mode (does Ambdec do that?). First off i play
a live-studio, naturally mic'd jazz album, so there is an actual
environment in the recording. Then i play something that was mic'd close
and run through the boards like a modern (too loud) metal recording or for
even less acoustics a Haujobb recording that was just created into (or by)
a DAW.

What am i going to hear over my Ambisonic speaker system? Most of the
effects i've heard from pre-amps that alter stereo (with effect names like
"hall", "stadium" etc) just add reverb and sound foolish. I assume it's not
of that nature and is actually 'retrieving' acoustics originaly heard by
the microphones somehow?

If i play an ITU format like a movie in 5.2 or 7.1 what will happen over
the ambisonics system? I've read one source that said it actually sounded
"better" but i'd love to know how and why.

What have you all heard playing back various sources?

Thanks,

Bearcat
