I did something at one point to mess up my HD when I was messing around with
the security.  If I remember correctly, I erased the partition and then
re-established it without redoing the MBR.  I had a password on the disk,
but thought I had gotten rid of it by using Fdisk.  Well...the computer
would start to boot...then hang...or so it seemed.  I just typed the
password in....with no prompt or anything...and then it finished booting.

It happened somthing like that anyways.  I know I type the password in, even
though the computer didn't ask for it.
