I have an ATAPI drive (internal IDE), so it uses the LS-120 code from the BIOS,
which appears almost identical to the final stage of the CD-ROM code (booting
from CD-ROM requires hard or floppy drive emulation code according to some
specs I saw somewhere).

A machine I use at school (an Elonex from 1996 IIRC) has a BIOS 'Boot from
parallel port' option - not sure which protocols it uses, but it worked with a
Zip drive, but not with a Cumana parallel port CD-ROM.
