Might I recommend THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO LINUX, by Manuel Ricart?
It contains a well-written guide to getting starting *using* Linux
productively--both on the command line and through the KDE GUI. It comes
with Caldera 1.3 and Star Office on one CD.
Quite an excellent text, in my view.
