On my 486 with an Amibios I have a primary master hd of 1222MB.
That is too much for the bios so that the salesperson at the time of its
original buy putOntrack from Seagate Technology on it. With that Ontrack
file which must be somewhere on the first track I was always able to use
this hd for its full size. I heard from other listmembers who did not like
the program (I think there where some very unfavourable and strong
comments about the Ontrack program) but I was a satisfied user until
recently after I got several freezes and other strange problems. I am not
100% sure but I think that Ontrack gave me problems.
Since tonight I am not able to start my 486 after I played around with my
setup and even my rescue disk will not help me out. Ater boot up the Seagate
logo shows with the remark that you have to press the spacebar to boot from
diskette. That function does not function anymore.
A new instalation od DrDos from diskette does not work because it does not
recognise the disk and proposes to format the disk.
Does somebody have a solution for my problem?
As I am now working on my XT, my possibilities to download from the Web for
a replacement for Ontrack are limited.
