Hello,
If you're an archive reader, SurvPC @eGroups subscriber, or
has your LISTSERV delivery mode set to traditional (NoMIME)
digest, then most likely you didn't receive Alessio's attached
photo, or unable to extract it.
In case you getting curious, I've uploaded the image at:
http://www.egroups.com/files/survpc/images/
The direct URL is:
http://www.egroups.com/files/survpc/images/fddhdsw.gif
Next time please don't post binaries directly to the list.
You won't reach our full audience that way. Instead, just
do the following:
* Subscribe to SurvPC @eGroups (if you haven't already
done so):
http://www.egroups.com/subscribe/survpc/
Make sure you select nomail/"read on the web", so you
won't receive duplicate copies of SurvPC postings.
* Go to our file section:
http://www.egroups.com/files/survpc/
* Create a separate folder as needed, then upload your
binary file there (I knew, you do need a browser that
has HTTP upload support ;-).
* Post the URL here.
Back on the topic, actually I can't find the switch in any
of my 3.25" FDDs. Guess this specific for some model/brand
only?
Regarding the initial thread of this subject, I did have a
few similar occasions like that. FDD(s) refused to read/
write floppies normally. To ever worse the situation, I did
lost some floppies in such misbehaved FDD, with their surface
scratched pretty bad.
In most cases, usually the culprit was trying to access any
of the following:
* Severely fungus-invested floppy
* Dust-contaminated floppy
* Cofee-dipped floppy (j/k) ;-)
The contamination was so bad that even head-cleaner diskette
won't help. My usual "fix" was opening the FDD casing, then
cleaning both R/W heads surface directly with a cotton bud
previously-dipped in head-cleaner liquid (alcohol, ethylene
glycol, cca. 100%).
