Hi Heimo, About "LSPPP version 0.764" of April 13:
MS> I D/Ld it from http://www.inti.be/hammer/lsppp764.zip... HS> Why does the author's website still point to version .75? MS> I have no idea! HC> ...a test version... Author David Lindauer may have own his reasons HC> to consider it not yet ready for "release"... I acknowledge the probable motivation of the author but i must also point out that i clearly remember reading a post which seemed to be from TechW0rm: i asked him about the status of `LSPPP'. In my post of March 27 titled "LSPPP versione 1.764" (i bet you recall that "1" in "1.764"), euh... (and it was addressed to you, David and TechW0rm, by the way...) i began the post with a 4 lines introduction: "About "`LSPPP v1.74' and `LSICQ v1.85'" of January 6, ..." (here i mistaken January for February, actually), anyway, euh... I believe TechW0rm or David Lindauer both had a couple opportunities to set the matter straight (yet, they never did). Two months later i'm still waiting, maybe that's why Howard Schwartz and myself are wondering!!! Thanks for letting me have v0.764, nonetheless. :) MS> All my attempts to make contact with the author or TechW0rm have MS> been ignored despite the alleged possibility that they saw... HC> Just a bit patience, perhaps. Or why not contribute a little and HC> voluntarily do the testing experience? ^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^ Now that's funny. "CONTRIBUTE"? "VOLUNTARILY"?! My guess is that the recent disruptions at SoftCon distracted you somewhat. I _did_ want to contribute and i did prove that i was more than willing! Remember my signature about `LSPPPDlr.ZIP'?... As to the testing, you must not have noticed that passage but i _did_ write that i started testing v0.764!... As proof, i can refer you to my post (addressed to you) of April 5 about "LSPPP versione 0.764", where you would have read: "...it is now on top of my dialing directory, that's the 1st thing `{Commo}' will connect to. So far, i've observed no problem with it; ...", euh... Yep, I TEST IT! ^^^^^^^^^ %-) MS> Can i ask what's your HardWare setup? Especially the processor and MS> conventional memory available? The 8088/8250 test can be selective! HC> It runs on several machines, from a '286 through a '486 to a HC> Pentium-II... ..."real" external modem... ...(with 16550s). Thanks for your reply, testing parameters are important too... ;-) I finally tried `LSPPP v0.764' on my `GridCase II' 8088 LapTop LEGACY PC a few times, it connected normally and i was able to launch `MS-Kermit'; my ~TelNet~ sessions were short but i observed nothing unusual. The big if is as to wether or not i can load/unload various clients repetitively (`LSPPP v0.75' did let me have ~TelNet~ but it wasn't too long before my setup became unstable and crashed)... there's a bit more testing ahead. ;^) As for the serial-port... No, the GridCase doesn't include a 16550 and not even a real 8250 for that matter; which means `LSPPP' is LEGACY friendly at the moment! I just hope the author will keep it that way... 8-) Before i go, i wish to clarify something. It's not being impatient toward you to expect any life signs from TechW0rm, and why not, from the author David Lindauer himself, euh... :-> And when i wrote that "i got no satisfying answer but a thought to give the creeps!", well... I wish you kept in mind that my post was addressed to Howard Schwartz who asked this: "Why does the author's website still point to version .75?"! P-) Oh, euh... David, TechW0rm, if any of you is really reading this i still want to know what's going to happen with `LSICQ'... Please!!! :) Salutations, Michel Samson a/s Bicephale http://www3.sympatico.ca/bicephale/epppd.htm UnZip `LSPPPDlr.ZIP' at the root of C: using "-d" (for directories) and then type "Commo" ...
