Hi,
i run CDE on AIX and had a similar problem: after entering id and passwd -
dark screen for a while - then back to the CDE login screen...
try removing .dtprofile and .dt from your home directory.
if that does not help -- create a new user and try to login with CDE.
I had a similar problem - removed .dt* - logged in OK
i hope it is that easy...
