this may be a shot in the dark here, BUT
I was fooling around with SuSE 5.3 this morning on a new Celeron and
noticed that the gpp isn't loaded by default.
Now, I don't know if that is the ONLY C++ compiler that is loaded when you
do a default install of SuSE, but you might want to start up YAST and
include it in your set of installed packages.
I am about to try installing wvdial 1.20 and will let you know how it goes.
