I think you will find WP does use its own printer setup files. I used the
printer setup:

'File' > 'Print' > 'Select' > 'Printer Create/Edit' > 'Setup' then choose the
your printer from the list of available printers, select 'Destination' click on
'lp' and work back through the 'OK' boxes.

It seems to me that WP by-passes the Ghostscript method of printing used by
StarOffice as I get hardcopy out of the printer much quicker from WP than SO for
the same document. Even in windross WP used its own printing methods rather than
use the m$ print manager.

Hope this helps

(It is great to be back in familiar territory with WP8 it even has reveal codes
and it looks as though I could even set it to look like WP5.0 with silver text
on a blue background.

Unless someone has found a way to use type 1 fonts it looks as though we will
need to purchase the 'full' package to get a better selection of fonts. I copied
several fonts into the same directory as the WP ones but there doesn't seem to
be an obvious way to get WP to use them.)

Since writing the above (but before Mailing it :-) ) I found a very useful site
which may be of use to anyone trying to set up WP printing/fonts:-
