I had the same video card (blaster exxtreeme) with the same video
problem. I dropped to 24 bit and all my pictures looked good from
then on. But I ended up swapping out the card for an ATI expert @
play. My guess it is something with the x-server
(XFCOM-something-something- 3Dlabs if I remember right) and the
permedia chipset.
