Well in the continuing saga...
Finally after replacing the main board I rid myself of the PCI error
and SAX does come up now. However, SAX upon testing the server gives
me a very little unintelligible chunk of a large picture no mater what
I set the video to.
xf86config is no better because I get binary errors when I try to
"startx".
Tomorrow I'll get a different video card and give that a try.
