I havn't tried the 6 beta, but I have been using the
initio patch on my SIIG scsi board. It works fine,
but I applied the patch and recompiled the 2.0.36
kernel with scsi builtin.

So, I can tell you the initio driver works.
As to why the scsi30 boot kernel is locking
up , I couldn't say. Why not install with the
standard eide kernel, then apply the initio patch,
and recompile your own kernel?
