I only set the DMA support in the kernel and did NOT use a TSC Kernel.
BTW, I compile all my stuff with pgcc-1.1.1 and -mamdk5 or -mcyrix6x86
respectively (except for the kernel, which is compiled with pgcc but with the
default flags)
Besides that I only use hdparm -m16 or 32 depending on disk -u1 -k1 -d1
