I dont know if this will help you or not but I have a deskpro590 that I set
up with xf86config
used the generic monitor, generic card, and svga server. choose memory of
1200k
#1 of refresh rate
Its not what Id call "super high resolution" but definetly adequate.
Im told a better card that has has say 2 M of ram would be better... but
this is adequate>
Im told most onboard vids do around 1M slightly more
Did you set up the compaq "diagnostic" partition? My isa slots wouldnt work
w/o it!
good luck
