If you need to know the MAC adresses of some remote machine, try "arp"
(see manpage). "ifconfig" will tell you the local HW adresses. You need to
load the correct driver first, of course.

If it is a PCI card, you will find it in /proc/pci. If it is an ISA card,
you need to load the driver first.
