If you are still using a libc5-based ssh, this is the reason. It seems,
that the format of wtmp is different between libc5 and glibc.
You should either recompile it against glibc2, or get a new RPM from one
of the non-US SuSE ftp-Servers (e.g. ftp.gwdg.de).
