It is easy to do :

1. cd /usr/src/linux
2. make menuconfig or for X make xconfig
3. select what you need, and throw out the rest
4. make dep; make clean
5. make zImage
7. cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/zImage /boot/zImage
8. reconfiger /etc/lilo.conf
9. sync
10. shutdown -r now

and ready you are, to get more info on the different
selections see help.
