I couldn't find an answer in SuSE 6.0 Manual. You are not connecting to your ISP's nameservers. Check your resolv.conf. You might also have a routing problem, with routing for ppp0 not getting setup right when you use minicom. I'm not totally familiar with how to setup routing for ppp0 manually.
