I'm relatively new to SuSE, but it appears that SuSE, like other linuxes,
ships with the older versions of ftape, and it is not compiled into the
kernel. According to the ftape docs, this is correct. But you should get
the latest (3.04d) version and *then* compile it as a module. Can't see a
reason to recompile the kernel. Someone jump in if I'm wrong here.
