I'm pretty sure 'hell' doesn't have anything to do with it!  ;->

Everytime you reboot your computer the kernel mounts all the HD's it
finds in the /etc/fstab file. 

After about 5 or 6 reboots the kernel does an HD check, which is similar
to scandisk or chkdsk in DOS.

If you never turned your system off you would never see that message.
Since I no longer dual boot to Win95 I leave my computer running 24/7,
and only turn off the monitor and printer when I'm not in my office.  It
never crashes so why shut it down or reboot.
