I had a similar problem with the 2.2.1 kernel.
It revolved around a conflict with my soundcard.
My solution?
Set printer irq to 7 in bios.
Use yast to setup printer on /dev/lp0
Set my souncard to irq5
It was weird, I could not use sound on irq7, even if
I chose irq5 and /dev/lp1 for the printer.
