The OSSfree driver that comes with your 2.2.2 kernel should work with the card.
My guess is that you don't have the proper entry for it in /etc/conf.modules.
Do you have an entry in /etc/conf.modules for sound? Did you set it to the
irq that the pci system gave to the card at boottime?

Of course, put the irq that was given the card at boottime.
