I've noticed it, too. Since the password cannot be sent encrypted (your ISP
should know your encryption key) and since pppd messages are written by default
on /var/log/messages, I am not surprised about that. I don't think there are
any problem as long as you don't change the permissions of the /var/log/messages
file which is 640.
