OK... MAJOR linux time!
Myself and the technician for a school in Northumberland, UK, are thinking
of dumping our OS/2 network server in favour of Linux.
How easy is it to make a set of standalone Win95 workstations log on to the
linux server as a domain, say 'susesnet', like we currently use 'rmnet', and
then automagically give them access permissions to their folder only, say
for example user 'STUDENT0004' has a folder on the server called
N:\student0004. They also have access to the folders which have the
applications in to launch them. But they don't have access to the admin
folder, or other users.
Basically, what I'm asking is - is it possible to make our linux server
appear in Network Neighborhood after a user has logged on? Or is there a
way to allow user STUDENT0004 to access a PATH of //susenet/student0004,
like we currently use shares?
Bottom line: How easy is it to make Suse and Samba act as a fileserver for
600 kids?
