OK, I think I found the problem but not the complete solution.
I noticed that I ended up with two libc.so.6's. One in /lib and one in
/usr/i486-linux-libc6/lib, and the one getting used was the one in
/usr/i486-linux-libc6/lib and it was failing. I commented out the
/usr/i486-linux-libc6/lib line in /etc/ld.so.conf and BOOM, uname
works! But this can't be the complete solution! Does anyone know what I
can do to get this system right?

Andy
