Hi, I had mysql running about 6 months ago, but had no need for
it so I deleted it.
I remember there was some difficulty getting it to initialize.
There is a catch-22 sort of startup procedure for mysql
and postgres. They both come with a default database,
which you must first open up, then you can create a new database.
With postgres it was called "jolly", and with mysql (sorry I can remember).

On the mysql website, there is extra documentation. The complete
manual in pdf format seems to give all the steps you need to go thru.
Mysql contains alot of security features and you need to create
root priviledges and user priviledges before you can use it. The
pdf document explains this step by step.

Also there is an excellent mail list for mysql. If you want to use mysql,
susbscribe to it. It is a really informative list. There is plenty of
help available there.
