I suspect that you may be confusing gcc/egcs with libc5/libc6. Whether
you use gcc 2.7.2.3 or egcs you are still using libc6 (aka
glibc). Suse 6.0 allows you to *run* libc5 applications, but will
*always* generate libc6.
