Yes that was it. Thanks for the reply.
I had no idea about diald leaving stale pids but I can see that may have
been contributing to my past problems with diald. I couldnt understand why
it wasnt starting at boot.
Now I know what to look for.
So, should I make the assumption that if I look in /var/run and compare it
to ps x then I should remove any "stale"/ dead pids? The reason I ask is I
also notice a ppp_0.pid Id guess this is also stale... as its not appearing
in ps x.
