Hi-
I have used applix for a variety of text + graphics things and have had
pretty good luck. Especially if I take in graphics from its own
package. The graphics ability in wp8 seems a bit more refined because
it allows a lot more flexibility in dealing with graphics; but I like
being able to doubleclick an applixwords linked graphic and getting the
graphics editor to come up. My printing jobs have somewhat
demonstrated that I often have to go back to a page with text and
graphics and do a minor amount of fiddling. Unfortunately, staroffice
5 seems to do better at this for me and wp8 seems to do the best. WP8
is quite refined with the full cd version at editing graphics within
wp. I know others have used applix more; but to me its quite usable
and functional. There are better. As a sidenote, SO5 is a definitely
a resource pig. On a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop with a Pentium II 366,
8mb AGP card, 128mb of system memory, SO5 takes fully 30 seconds to
load that rediculous desktop. WP8 comes right up as applix does. I am
at the point now of looking at solutions and what will survive for me.
I ordered the filter upgrade for SO5 out of curiosity only. I believe
that when corel releases its full linux office suite we will see a
redefining of what a suite has to be. I am hoping that the corel suite
provides that bridge.
