Ciao,
I am running KDE1.1 on a SuSE6.0 with a 2.0.36 kernel, pentium 200MMx 64 MB
RAM.
I have xfstt installed from the rpm I made
(http://adriatico.prisma.rm.cnr.it/~maurizio). There are 334 TrueType fonts
indexed on /usr/ttfonts which is a soft link to /mnt/msdos/windows/fonts. On
the file fonts.dir are listed only 145 fonts belonging to the families: arial,
comic, courier, futura, human521,impact,times,verdana,wingding.
Nevertheless, all the fonts are correctely displaied on Gimp, Netscape, or on
the font selection menu in any of the KDE applications.
I have noticed that the first time I open kmail or an html document with kfm,
they takes a long time before displaying the document. Then, they behaves
normally. If I uninstall xfstt, this sympthom disappears.
Could you please do a little test and tell me if you have the same behaving?
In the xfstt FAQ there is a note on a possible buffer overruns of some
applications which cannot handle correctly the "huge number of fonts,
proportional and scalable fonts and the big glyph sizes Xfstt can provide".
I sent a mail to Stefan Taferner - the author of kmail - about this problem and
he told me:

"...I have xfstt running without problems. Seems that you have another
problem here..."

Before dismissing xfstt and try xfsft (which requires a bit more work than
xfstt to compile), I would like to receive your feed-back.

I got the KDE1.1 rpms from:
sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch

I had not such a problem with KDE1.0 SuSE5.3 kernel 2.0.35 and the same
amount of tt fonts.

Thanks,

Maurizio
