Hi all. I'm trying to configure an Ensoniq 1869 in my laptop. When I was
using Kernel 2.0.? I was able to use OSS3.7.1z as provided with the
distribution. Then, I went to 2.2.1 (from a CD). No OSS.
So, I hit the books. I did the whole pnpdump > /etc/isapnp.conf thing. I
compiled sound modules into the kernel. But when I looked at
/dev/sndstat I got nothing.
Having previously been successful in getting sound working in Red Hat
5.2 using sndconfig with kernel 2.2.1, I pulled sndconfig off my Red Hat
dist. ensuring that I met all the dependencies that the sndconfig
package called for. Didn't work, then I fiddled (use --noprobe
--noautoconfig with no modules loaded) and it worked. Hooray, I thought.
But, upon rebooting- no sound!
So, I went back to the whole pnpconf thing. I did things like compiling
pnp support into the kernel (which seems to id the card correctly) and
removing automatic isapnp.conf reads during bootup via yast.
No luck! I'm past the frustration stages, and the desperation stages and
am at the resigned & patient stages. Suggestions?
Seb
